I am inspired by nature, and images of plants, flowers, trees, leaves and butterflies are important to me….particularly important for me are themes around growth of plants from seeds. They grow from almost nothing, in the most inhospitable of places, through wind, rain and storm, until flowers emerge, making a beautiful display. When nurtured they persevere, and with kindness they thrive…

“My work considers that even when something is lost, somehow, someway, it can also be found – even if the methods are unconventional. We are both touched and pleased to see how the scheme has grown and the positive impact it is having on award-winners’ artistic aspirations. SANE is thrilled at the response and overwhelmed by the quality of artwork, as well as the power and poignancy of the written submissions. It has brought us joy to see what our grants have enabled recipients to do and the encouragement they have provided.

– Marjorie Wallace, Chief Executive of SANE

The scheme develops the creative skills and abilities of applicants, and supports mental health through creative endeavour. This is an aim and aspiration shared by The Open College of the Arts through our work in creative education, and we are proud to be partners of the scheme. Our tutors, who take part in the judging panel, continue to be inspired by the amazing work produced by the applicants.”
